Morgan Security Security Guard Requirements
Security guard licensing laws differ between Indiana and Illinois. Security guards in Indiana are not required to obtain a PERC Card as in the state of Illinois. Instead, only the employer or security firm must have the appropriate state license. PERC Card requirements for working in Illinois are explained in the next section ( Illinois Security Guard Training ) further down this page. Anyone deciding to work for Morgan Security, whether in Indiana or Illinois, will still have to abide by all Morgan Security policies and security guard training requirements laid out in this section.
The state requirements to work as a security guard in Indiana fall on the security firm’s policies and conditions. Along with the required training, Morgan Security follows strict guidelines similar to Illinois state regulations, except that the guard, in this case, does not need to acquire a state license. Illinois Security Guard PERC CARDS
In Illinois, security guards must obtain a PERC Card or Permanent Employee Registration Card. This card tells you that the officer has passed a background check through fingerprint submission to the state. This card is critical for anyone who wants to become a security guard in Illinois.
PERC card applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid ID and social security number and submit to a background check by having their fingerprints scanned and analyzed. Along with obtaining the PERC card, at least 20 hours of coursework is required regarding topics applicable to the security guard’s employment specialty.
PERC cards are valid for only three years and need Renewing if you’re going to remain working as a security guard in Illinois.
If you possess a valid Illinois detective, security contractor, alarm contractor, or locksmith license, then a PERC is not required to work for a licensed agency. Also, as defined in the Private Detective, Private Alarm, Private Security, Fingerprint Vendor, and Locksmith Act, a peace officer is exempt from the requirements relating to the PERC.
Applicants should understand that obtaining a PERC card doesn’t mean that they will get hired by Morgan Security or other security firms. All security firms, including Morgan Security, abide by their own policies and training requirements that potential security guards must pass before being brought on as an employee.
